Virginia LULAC is incredibly proud to recognize and celebrate one of our own, Oriella Mejia, on her successful graduation from The Campaign School at Yale University, one of the nation's most prestigious leadership and campaign training programs.
Held annually at Yale Law School in New Haven, Connecticut, The Campaign School at Yale University selects only 80 participants from across the country for its intensive Summer Session. The program's mission is to train women, and the men who support them, to win elected office and become effective leaders in public service. Participants receive instruction from some of the nation's most accomplished campaign professionals, political strategists, elected officials, and policy experts, preparing them to lead with integrity, vision, and effectiveness.
Oriella's graduation from this highly selective program is the latest achievement in a career dedicated to public service. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ensuring that Latino voices are heard, respected, and represented at every level of government.
She began her public service career as a congressional staff member in the office of U.S. Senator Mark Warner, where she worked to strengthen constituent engagement and promote Latino visibility and representation within the federal government. She later broke barriers by serving as Northern Virginia Director for U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, becoming a trusted liaison between the Senator's office and communities throughout the region. In that role, she worked tirelessly to ensure that the concerns, priorities, and aspirations of Latino Virginians were reflected in policy discussions, constituent services, and community outreach efforts across the Commonwealth.
Oriella's commitment to public service extended to the national level when she was appointed by President Biden to serve as Advisor for External Affairs at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) within the U.S. Department of Transportation. As a Presidential Appointee, she worked to strengthen partnerships among federal agencies, industry stakeholders, advocacy organizations, and local communities. Her efforts focused on fostering meaningful public engagement, building collaborative relationships, and ensuring that diverse voices were represented in federal outreach and communications initiatives.
Today, Oriella continues her service to the Commonwealth of Virginia as Legislative Assistant to Virginia State Senator Russet Perry, where she supports legislative and constituent affairs while helping advance policies that strengthen Virginia's communities. Her commitment to public service has also included leadership within Virginia LULAC, where she served as Deputy Director from 2022 to 2024, supporting community engagement, advocacy efforts, and outreach initiatives that strengthened connections with Latino communities across the Commonwealth.
As she joins the distinguished ranks of Campaign School alumni, Virginia LULAC celebrates not only her graduation but also the example she sets for future generations of Latino leaders. Her journey demonstrates that leadership is built through dedication, perseverance, service, and a commitment to uplifting one's community. At a time when diverse voices are needed more than ever in public life, Oriella's accomplishments serve as a powerful reminder of what is possible through hard work, determination, and a belief in the importance of public service.
Virginia LULAC is honored to celebrate this milestone and proud to recognize Oriella Mejia as a leader, advocate, mentor, and public servant whose contributions continue to strengthen our communities and our Commonwealth. We look forward to witnessing the many ways she will continue to serve and inspire others in the years ahead.
Please join us in congratulating Oriella Mejia on this outstanding accomplishment.
¡Felicidades, Oriella!
