We at Virginia LULAC are pleased to highlight our member Federico Cura for his recent appearance on national media, program Ɓngulo on NTN24, where he offered insightful analysis of the election of Zohran Mamdani — a historic milestone in American urban politics. Mamdani will become the 111th mayor of New York City, the first Muslim to hold the office, and at age 34 one of the youngest in a century.

Federico’s participation reflects the kind of advocacy and civic involvement we support at Virginia LULAC. He used his voice to engage on issues deeply relevant to Latino communities — issues such as housing affordability, immigrant representation, and the ability of diverse voices to help shape public policy. By stepping into this national-dialogue, Federico exemplifies the role that Latino leaders in Virginia can play in broader conversations — not just locally, but nationally and across sectors.

His commentary emphasized how Mamdani’s victory speaks not only to identity representation but also to policy: a platform oriented toward rent freezes, affordable housing, universal childcare, and free transit. In Federico’s view, while some of these policies may raise questions or require further scrutiny, the essential point is that this election signals Latino and immigrant communities are present, engaged, and prepared to participate in shaping civic outcomes.

We believe moments like this show why Virginia LULAC exists: to empower Latino voices, to cultivate leadership, and to encourage our members to represent our community in all aspectsĀ of civic life — from local elections to national media. By recognizing Federico’s achievement, we celebrate how one person’s voice can contribute to the narrative of representation, democracy, and inclusion.

Please join us in thanking Federico for his dedication and for the way he brings attention to Latino engagement and advocacy. We’re proud of his work, and we look forward to seeing more members of our Virginia LULAC community stepping into opportunities to represent our values, aspirations, and presence.
