Today, Virginia LULAC proudly celebrates one of our own, longtime member, community leader, and dedicated advocate Yesy Amaya, on her appointment to the Virginia Latino Advisory Board. This appointment reflects years of unwavering service, principled leadership, and a deep commitment to improving the lives of Latino families throughout the Commonwealth.
Councilwoman Amaya has established herself as one of Northern Virginia's most respected voices for community engagement and economic opportunity. As a member of the Manassas Park City Council, she has worked tirelessly to ensure that local government remains accessible, responsive, and focused on the needs of working families. Throughout her public service, she has championed initiatives that strengthen neighborhoods, encourage civic participation, and expand opportunities for Latino residents and small businesses alike.
A successful business owner herself, Yesy understands firsthand the challenges and opportunities facing entrepreneurs. She has become a strong advocate for connecting the Latino community with economic opportunity, demonstrating that community advocacy and business development go hand in hand. Through her leadership, she has helped foster relationships between local government, business owners, and community organizations, recognizing that thriving local economies create stronger, healthier communities for everyone.
Representing one of Virginia's fastest-growing regions, Yesy has consistently highlighted the importance of investing in infrastructure, small businesses, workforce development, and community partnerships. Her work reflects the belief that economic prosperity and community empowerment are not competing priorities, they are complementary goals that strengthen one another.
Beyond her service on the City Council, Yesy has also broken barriers in Virginia politics. She made history as the first Latina to serve as Co-Chair of a major Democratic political district in the Commonwealth of Virginia, leading the Manassas &Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee. In doing so, she has opened new doors for Latino representation in political leadership and inspired more members of our community to become engaged in civic life, public service, and the democratic process. Her leadership has helped expand Latino participation in politics while demonstrating that diverse voices belong at every level of government. As a trailblazer, mentor, and advocate, Yesy continues to inspire the next generation of Latino leaders across Virginia and serves as a powerful example of what dedicated community leadership can achieve.
Those of us who have had the privilege of working alongside Yesy know that her leadership is defined by integrity, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to serving others. She leads with humility, listens carefully to her community, and approaches every challenge with professionalism and optimism. Her commitment to public service extends far beyond elected office—it is reflected in the countless relationships she has built and the trust she has earned throughout Virginia.
The Virginia Governor's Latino Advisory Board plays an important role in advising the Governor on issues affecting Virginia's Latino community and identifying opportunities to improve the quality of life for Latino families across the Commonwealth. There is no doubt that Yesy's experience as an elected official, business owner, and community advocate will make her an invaluable voice on the Board.
Virginia LULAC extends our heartfelt congratulations to Yesy Amaya on this well-deserved appointment. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Governor Abigail Spanberger for recognizing the importance of Latino leadership and appointing such an accomplished public servant to the Virginia Latino Advisory Board. We are immensely proud to call Yesy a fellow LULAC member and friend, and we look forward to seeing the continued impact of her leadership as she helps shape policies that will benefit Latino communities throughout the Commonwealth.
Congratulations, Yesy. Your dedication, service, and leadership continue to inspire us all, and we know you will represent our community with distinction.
