Virginia LULAC Issues Call to Action: Latino Eligible Voters Must Make Their Voices Heard

Richmond, VA – Virginia LULAC, the Virginia chapter of the nation’s oldest and largest Largest civil rights organization, calls upon all eligible Latinos in Virginia to vote—not just this election, but in every election ahead.
Virginia is home to over 900,000 Latinos, representing roughly 10.6 % of the state’s population. (Encyclopedia Virginia) This growing demographic is economically, socially, and culturally woven into the fabric of our Commonwealth.
Why Our Vote Matters:
Economic stake: Latino-owned businesses are thriving in Virginia. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, Hispanics make up approximately 9.5 % of workers and own 9.2 % of small businesses in the state. (Office of Advocacy)
Projected growth: The Latino population in Virginia is among the fastest growing. Projections suggest Latinos could make up 17 % (over 1.6 million persons) of the state’s population by 2030. (vlab.virginia.gov)
With such economic and demographic influence, we must ensure our voices are central in shaping Virginia’s future. But influence only matters when it’s expressed at the ballot box. We are a significant part of Virginia’s story and we deserve say in how it's run.
A Legacy of Struggle — A Responsibility to Act:
We are reminded of the sacrifices our parents, grandparents, and ancestors made—not only in the U.S., but in their countries of origin—to secure the right to vote. This right is not merely a privilege; it is a responsibility. It is also a powerful tool, one that our communities have used to win foundational protections.
LULAC was one of the strongest supporters of the Bilingual Education Act of 1968, which for the first time secured federal recognition that students who do not yet speak English may require special educational support. This is our power and this is how we get things done, at the polls!
That legacy is ours to carry forward.
Virginia LULAC call to Action urges every eligible Latino voter to:
Urge other Latino's to vote. talk to neighbors, friends, family; join local canvassing efforts and remind your neighbors the importance of voting.
Share election information via social media, community bulletin boards, faith groups, local businesses.
Verify or update your voter registration (ensure you are correctly registered, know your polling location, and check your status).
Vote early or by mail if your locality permits — don’t wait until the final day.
Plan your trip to the polls — decide when, how, and with whom ahead of time.
Go to the polls on election day, if early or mail voting is not possible.
Engage others — remind family, friends, and neighbors of the importance of voting and help them get registered or find their polling place. (Find your Polling Location)
Elections in Virginia occur every year. Some local, some statewide, some federal. We may be heard only if we participate consistently.
Every ballot cast by our community is a statement: Somos Uno, Somos Unidos, y Somos el Futuro. We insist on being heard in how our neighborhoods, schools, infrastructure, and services are governed.
Virginia LULAC stands ready to support Latino voters - providing resources, education, and mobilization support. We will continue to advocate for equitable representation, policies that uplift Latino communities, and full civic inclusion for all.

Virginia es hogar de más de 900,000 latinos, que representan aproximadamente el 10.6% de la población del estado de Virginia (Encyclopedia Virginia). Esta comunidad en crecimiento está entrelazada económica, social y culturalmente en el tejido de nuestro Commonwealth.
Por Qué Nuestro Voto Importa:
Participación económica: Los negocios con duenos latinos están prosperando en Virginia. Pero la influencia solo cuenta cuando se expresa en las votaciones. Somos una parte significativa de la historia de Virginia y merecemos tener voz en cómo se dirige nuestro estado.

Motive a otros latinos a votar — hable con vecinos, amigos y familiares; únase a esfuerzos locales de alcance comunitario y recuerde a todos la importancia de votar.
Comparta información electoral a través de las redes sociales, tablones comunitarios, grupos de fe y negocios locales.
Verifique o actualice su registro electoral (asegúrese de estar correctamente registrado, conozca su centro de votación y confirme su estado).
Vote anticipadamente o por correo, si su localidad lo permite — no espere hasta el último día.
